SAAF Lemania 5012 Automatic Chronograph AF118XX
Description:
A watch with deep-rooted history in South Africa, this Lemania 5012 automatic chronograph has a central chronograph minute and seconds recorder as well as sub seconds at 9 o’clock. This watch and movement (Lemania 5012) was made for the South African Air Force exclusively. A total of 800 of these were produced, but very few remain.
This example AF118XX has been polished- with the AF number showing very faintly on the caseback. The edge of the aluminum bezel has some wear, suggesting that this watch has seen some action.
This rare and uniquely South African timepiece is a necessity for any military watch collector and a great opportunity to get their hands on a unique watch which rarely surfaces. The watch has been purchased from and serviced by the Waterkloof Air Force Base watchmaker- Responsible for servicing these watches throughout the eighties and nineties.

Dial:
The dial is a matte black with a white minute track around the edge of the dial, running onto the countdown bezel. The minute chronograph recorder has a ‘plane’ style hand which, like the other central hands, have been covered by lume. A small amount of white paint on the ‘Plane’ is missing. There is a sub-seconds feature at 9 o’clock which divides the minute into six ten second intervals and a date at 3 o’clock.
